CMS was engaged to supply skilled mechanical fitters to assist Transfield in the total dismantling and reassembly of the 7 Manapouri Hydro Turbines.

• The dismantling and reassembly stages of the project were undertaken 24 hours/day and CMS staff were tasked with manning one of those shifts completely.
• The CMS team would be given lists of mechanical tasks to complete at the beginning of each shift, and we were always able to complete these, ensuring the project schedules stayed on time.
• After the equipment had been sent away and refurbished, CMS would return for up to 6-week periods to reassemble and assist commissioning for each unit.

= Outcome

Due to the flexibility of the CMS staff, Transfield were able to run the projects in a very cost effective manner, minimising the down time costs during the refurbishment stage.

The experienced gained by CMS staff on this type of project is invaluable for their further development as mechanical fitters.
